Boxer Rebellion Timeline in China

At the turn of the 20th century, intense social pressure due to increasing foreign influence in Qing China led to an upsurge of participation in the Righteous Harmony Society Movement (Yihetuan), called the Boxers by foreign observers. From their base in drought-ravaged northern China, the Boxers spread across the country, attacking foreign missionaries, diplomats, and traders, as well as Chinese Christian converts. By the time it ended, the Boxer Rebellion had claimed almost 50,000 lives. It leads to better achievement while its opposite i.e. disengagement results in more dropouts. The concept of student engagement is defined as identification and participation with the school. One way in engaging student is focusing on interpersonal behavior of teachers. It is characterized by students involvement and his participation in schooling process. It develops a sense of belongingness and commitment in students. The high engagement aspects include interest, concentrated attention and enjoyment. The low engagement aspects are apathy and no interest in school guidelines. High engagement in classrooms is significant predictor of continuing motivation and performance in school or college. The students are more likely to engage with authentic academic environment that allows them to solve real life problems. It extends beyond the classrooms. Also students are likely to be more engaged in student-controlled activities rather than teacher-controlled activities. Student engagement is characterized by teachers characteristics such as their effective communication, empathy and enthusiasm. Promoting participation among students can lead to reduction of school withdrawal. The engagement ca n be enhanced if teachers support students autonomy and competency. For example, teachers can provide task to student which offer choice, opportunities and connected to their goals. Teacher should provide tasks to students which are slightly difficult to do but not extremely difficult. Students are more engaged in individual and group assignment than listening to lectures (Shernoff Csikszentmihalyi, 2014). Engagement is defined as students involvement in learning activity. It has four dimensional constructs which includes behavioral, emotional, cognitive and agency aspect. Behavioral engagement describes how involved the student is in learning in terms of attention. Emotional engagement describes presence of positive emotions such as interest and absence of negative emotions such as anxiety. Cognitive engagement describes how strategically student is involved in learning like learning either by connecting or by memorizing. Agency engagement describes the extent of students contribution in terms of active participation like asking question, communicating their preferences etc. In order to enhance classroom engagement, it is necessary to generate motivational classroom experience such as new encounters with original or fresh ideas, promoting feedback and avoid pressured evaluations and criticism (Reeve Lee, 2014) Student engagement is very opposite of discipline problems, school failure and dropout. It helps in reducing gaps in the schools. Teachers should use effective strategies to involve students culturally and ethnically such as personality development training sessions which help students in connecting with curriculum, build authentic relationships and enhance reflective thinking (Bradshaw et al., 2018). Students learning experience and performances are correlated. The use of flipped model is the new way of engaging students. It leads to moving the lecture outside classroom using technology and moving homework inside the classroom through learning activities. The core idea is to flip the current model i.e. instructions via interactive lessons and teachers created videos are assessed at home and not in class while the work that needs to be done outside the class is now completed in classroom in the presence of teacher. It becomes collaborative learning experience. It gives opportunity to students to learn, to think by being actively engaged in content (Clark, 2015). From the earlier section of the report, it is found there are multiple ways to engage students in classrooms. So following are the most common ways that strengthen students engagement: helping and friendly behavior to students, effective communication, empathy, enthusiasm, promoting student participation, real life based studies, autonomy to students, introduce individual and group assignments, new encounters of students with original or fresh ideas, promoting feedback, personality development training session, flipped model .Also avoid pressured evaluations, continuous lectures and criticism. These student engagement ways have multiple strengths and weaknesses which should be evaluated, and finally necessary argument should be built upon it. More enriching lessons or real life cases, encounter to novelty help students to benefit from conceptualizations. Students are able to concentrate and are provided with intrinsic satisfaction that builds interest for future. Providing autonomy and competency help to cater the needs of changing society. Personality development courses can drastically impact the young peoples capability to involve in different activities such as group discussions, mind mapping etc. (Quaye Harper, 2014). Students will be equipped with new skills like reflective thinking and thus feel confident to pursue professional and personal goals. These methods remove the pain points of earlier method like criticism which undermines the ability of students. It helps in providing near universal knowledge and culture. Students feel empowered as they are involved in decision making activities through feedback mechanism and student-controlled lectures. Students will be trained in an environment where they are able to effectively communicate with their colleagues is an advantage of flipped model. They will be prepared like real world workplace environment. Teachers interpersonal characteristics provide motivation to students, which improve their involvement in classes. Teachers are reluctant sometimes to new concepts like flipped model. This is because they face the repercussions of such changes (Gilboy Heinerichs, 2015). It is not necessary that all teachers possess both subject matter expert and interpersonal qualities. It is challenging to foster these new ways. Students may fear or might not adapt the change. The changes like group assignment might increase the anxiety level among students. It might impact students emotional and social well-being. Not only the decisions makers are reluctant but also parents and general opinion becomes obstacle. There can be conflict among stake holders where one sees eliminating exams as an opportunity and other feels duty bound to safeguard the exiting process. Teachers interpersonal behavior might impact temporarily but it may not yield the desired result in the long run when students own efforts are counted more. Also these engagement effects might work for some students, but not necessarily for all. It is difficult to understand which aspect of teachers engagement is more beneficial. After analyzing both strengths and weaknesses of different ways, we can find that some of the activities like flipped learning suffer both implementation and cultural challenges in spite of its strengths. The report constitutes some simple approaches like interpersonal skills and characteristics of teachers that can foster student engagement when planned properly. These skills like group assignments, real life case studies, promoting student participation are value addition to knowledge but stakeholders might feel reluctant to implement them. It has been said that evaluations and criticism should be avoided without acknowledging their benefits. So is there anything else to replace these exams. Are students, teachers, parents and authorities have sufficient resources and in consent with each other to welcome the change? We can see that all student engagement ways which are mentioned have positive side as well as negative. It is difficult to implement these changes but isnt it like any other change in any other field? Change takes time, but its impact must not be ignored. So, implementing such changes is difficult but worth achieving. By the use of necessary instructional skills, they can become a rewarding and enriching experience that can produce positive outcome for all learners. Recommendations These new ways should be seen as opportunity to facilitate learning rather as a threat. They should not be limited to what is expected from teachers and students in the class instead these ways should build their beliefs, attitudes and motivate them (Reeve Lee, 2014). Each stakeholder should recognize the importance of these processes. It is necessary to have proper structure in place to make changes in exiting system. It is mandatory to understand the learner driven approach followed by planning and strategic implementation. The learners and teachers should be provided with ample support. It is essential to take into account students education histories, their development level, skills and their expectation out of the classroom learning (Foster Yaoyuneyong, 2016). The school authorities should evaluate learners ability before putting any change in place. These methods should be pilot tested and regularly improved. Teachers should be given proper training to implement these ways like programs to understand the importance of interpersonal behavior. Analysis should be done to understand whether it is practical to enforce such changes based on cost and result parameters. Substantial time should be given to evaluate and monitor the ways after implementation. It is important to understand all the ingredients of teacher s engagement that effect the classroom motivation. The interaction of multiple ways that effect engagement should not be ignored. For example would student feel engaged when they are provided with task of their choice and it is slightly difficult. Implementation of Project MGMT Methodologies-Samples for Students

Question: Write a report on the Current Project Management Issues in the Case Study of Frank Billings. Answer: Introduction Since 1990 when it was first started, is growing like anything. The reason why it is becoming so popular is this technology has provided a brilliant facility to the companies to produce highly complex designed equipment much faster and better quality[1]. It helps in reducing the scrap work and a better platform to communicate their ideas. Frank Billings was an engineering graduate who was very much enthusiastic to study in detail regarding the rapid prototyping. His dream became true after three years of completing his graduation, after he left Cocable, received order from his ex-company to develop four rapid prototyping machines according to the specifications provided by Cocable. Project Management: Issues and their Causes Project Management Methodologies were not used In the contract awarded by the Cocable to Frank, nothing was mentioned related to the submission of project management documents anywhere since the beginning of the execution of project stage. The activity of developing the retro prototyping started just after the job was awarded to Frank by Cocable. The issue of directly starting the job without doing any cross verification has happened due to the urgency of starting the job by Frank and also due to urgency in completing the project as the project delivery date was very tight. So none of the parties were interested to invest time in developing the project management documents and even they did not follow any project management methodologies too. All the parties Frank, Cocable and GE were interested in developing the retro prototyping and neither party interested in developing or following the project management strategies. Scope of work was not verified since the start of Retro Prototyping Project Ever since the work order was awarded to Frank, neither he wanted to cross check the scope nor did the Cocable also insisted for doing so either with Frank or from their client GE. This was the major mistake that has arises such a serious conflicts at the end of the project. The scope verification [2] process that is conducted when the work is in progress and the proper monitoring is done in Project Management, according to which the stage ask the team to reconfirm the scope after every stage of progress for its verification and minimize the diversion from the aim or scope of work. Stakeholder Identification not performed The very first step of the project management procedure is the identification of stakeholders and documents the expectations of the stakeholders. In this stage the stakeholders were identified, their expectation from the project is documented and the procedure to meet the expectations is also documented. This stage was totally missing in this case. If this would have been there, the expectations of GE would have been well identified before the start of the work. No communication matrix developed It is the step in project management which is conducted just after the stakeholder identification stage. When the types of communications, there procedure, venue and media are identified[3]. This stage was also missing in the case. In this case, Frank was unaware that in case of any issue whom he need to contact in Cocable as per the contract terms. This became the main reason of the conflict. Now as the issue arises regarding the scope verification, none of the party is willing to take the ownership, as it was actually not clear since the beginning. So the identification of roles and responsibilities in communication matrix is required well before the actual start of job. Change Control Procedure is missing This stage is required to be defined at the beginning itself which can help the project in resolving conflicts in case of any changes occurs in scope of quality requirements in between the project execution stage[4]. In current case, since the document is missing, so no one knows that how to resolve the current issue of increase in the length of model from 55 inches to 62 inches. Moreover, Frank need to procure many more actuators, and other related items for the change. So now who will pay for the change remains unresolved due to the absence of this document. Recommendatons By looking at the issues which has risen in the case, is because of not following the proper steps of project management methodology and related techniques. So the project management techniques need to be followed in every project for the whole life cycle. Otherwise similar issues can always arise. The lessons learnt from the study can be summarized as, the stakeholder identification, communication matrix, scope verification and other similar stages of the project management need to be followed since the beginning of the project till its end. How Does The Bus Topology Works Information Technology Essay The bus topology is a series of nodes which are all connected to a backbone. Bus networks typically work well for smaller networks and use Ethernet cables for networking. It is easy to maintain and troubleshoot in a bus network. How does the BUS topology works : The bus topology connects each computer on the network into something called the segment trunk. A bus is usually referred to a cable that connects end to end and this is used to transmit the signals from one end to the other end. At every end a terminator is placed so that it understands in which direction the data is traveling and also the terminator is used to absorb the signals Figure 1 : BUS topology ii. Star topology : A star topology is based on a central node which acts as a hub. A star topology is common in homes networks where all the computers connect to the single central computer using it as a hub. How does the Star topology works : A star network features a central connection point called a hub that may be a hub, switch or router. Devices typically connect to the hub with Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP) Ethernet. Compared to the bus topology, a star network generally requires more cable, but a failure in any star network cable will only take down one computers network access and not the entire LAN. Figure 2 : Star topology iii. Ring topology : A ring network is circular in shape and every node will have one node on either side of it. The ring topology is rare to come across because of its limitations. If there is damaged cable or breakdown in any one of the nodes then the entire network stops functioning. How does the Ring topology works : A ring network is a network topology in which each node connects to exactly two other nodes, forming a single continuous pathway for signals through each node a ring. Data travels from node to node, with each node along the way handling every packet. Because a ring topology provides only one pathway between any two nodes, ring networks may be disrupted by the failure of a single link. Figure 3 : Ring topology iv. Mesh topology : Mesh topology is a group of nodes which are all connected to each other and many types of connections are possible in a mesh topology How does the Mesh topology works : In a Mesh Network every node is connected to other nodes on the network through hops. Some are connected through single hops and some may be connected with more than one hope. While the data is traveling on the Mesh Network it is automatically configured to reach the destination by taking the shortest route which means the least number of hops. Figure 4 : Mesh topology v. Tree topology: The tree topology is a group of star networks put together. The only difference is that the tree topology follows a hierarchy in structure and the entire tree is dependent on this hierarchy. How does the Tree topology works : Among all the Network Topologies we can derive that the Tree Topology is a combination of the bus and the Star Topology. The tree like structure allows you to have many servers on the network and you can branch out the network in many ways. Figure 5 : Tree topology Task -1 (b) The advantages and disadvantages for each medium of network topology. Some of medium are cat5, cat6, fiber optic, coaxial cable etc. Cat5 : Category 5 cable is a twisted pair high signal integrity cable type often referred to as Cat5 or Cat-5. Most cables are unshielded, relying on the twisted pair design for noise rejection, and some are shielded. Figure 6 : Cat5 Cable This category of UTP cable is the most commonly used cable in present day networks. It consists of four twisted pairs and is used in those Ethernet networks that run at the speed of 100 Mbps. Category 5 cable can also provide a higher speed of up to 1000 Mbps. Cat6 : Category 6 cable, commonly referred to as Cat-6, is a cable standard for Gigabit Ethernet and other network protocols that are backward compatible with the Category 5/5e and Category 3 cable standards. Compared with Cat-5 and Cat-5e, Cat-6 features more stringent specifications for crosstalk and system noise. Figure 7 : Cat6 Advantages : Cat 6 will be very effective in the residential market to support higher Internet access speeds. The better balance of cat6 will make it easier to meet the residential EMC requirements compared to cat 5e cabling. The growth of streaming media applications to the home will increase the need for higher data rates which are supported more easily and efficiently by category 6 cabling. Disadvantages : It transfer data in Gigabytes per seconds. It is costly. Fiber optic cable : Fiber optic cables are made up of glass, and they transmit data in the form of light, unlike the copper wire that uses electrical signals. A reflective coating that allows light beams to travel without outer interference covers the glass cable. Figure 8 : Fiber optic cables The advantages of Fiber optic cables are that signals can be sent at a much higher speed and to very long distances without the risk of outer interference. There are more advantages of fiber optic cables are : System Performance Greatly increased bandwidth and capacity Lower signal attenuation (loss) Immunity to Electrical Noise No crosstalk Lower bit error rates Signal Security Difficult to tap Overall System Economy Low per-channel cost Lower installation cost Disadvantages of fiber optic cable : One problems with optical fibers is that the electrical information signals must be converted (modulated) to light at the transmitter and then down converted (demodulated) from light back to electrical signals at the receiver. The main disadvantage of fiber optics is that the cables are expensive to install and are more fragile than metal wire and are more difficult to split. Coaxial cable : Coaxial cable, or coax, is an electrical cable with an inner conductor surrounded by a tubular insulating layer typically of a flexible material with a high dielectric constant, all of which are surrounded by a conductive layer called the shield, and finally covered with a thin insulating layer on the outside. Figure 9 : Coaxial cable Advantages of coaxial cables are : Coax has a sufficient frequency range to support multiple channels, which allows for much greater throughput. Compared to twisted-pair, coax provides greater bandwidth systemwide, and it also offers greater bandwidth for each channel. Because it has greater bandwidth per channel, it supports a mixed range of services. Voice, data, and even video and multimedia can benefit from the enhanced capacity. Disadvantages of coaxial cables are : More expensive than twisted pairs and is not supported for some network standards (eg token ring), its also very bulky and also has high attenuation so would have the need to implement repeaters etc. Task 1 (c) From our above investigation and determination that BUSS topology is too much vulnerable. You dont have to have someone come out to your location and install and hook things up. It is in your hands and not in someone elses. 2. It is easier to manage. IP PBX can be managed in a web based configuration interface or a GUI. This allows you to fine tune and maintain you phone system. Once again, if you are dealing with a regular home line you have to rely on a technician. 3. Significant cost savings when you use voip service providers. This is a big deal right now as we are all trying to cut back and save money. You can easily connect phone systems between branches and make free phone calls. 4. You can eliminate phone wiring. This is something that can bring a comfort to a business owner. Software phones can be installed directly onto the computer. You can now have much more control over adding and moving of extensions in your office. In new offices you can eliminate the extra ports completely. 5. Eliminate vendor lock in. It is like a kind of schizophrenia†. –Vittorio Gossman Schizophrenia is a psychiatric disorder that changes the consistency of a person’s personality in arrears to emotional weakness and detachment from reality. Schizophrenia can be connected with the disorders of anxiety and depression. Those who have this disorder go through variations of abnormal activities. Schizophrenia is a disorder that damages the brain. People with schizophrenia sometimes hear voices that others may not hear. They are truly convinced that they hear these voices as well. Schizophrenias may also think that other people have control over them when it comes to knowing what thoughts run through the mind and they believe that those people will bring harm to their lives (NIMH-Schizophrenia). When trying to establish a conversation with schizophrenics it can be rather awkward at times. They sometimes can’t put their words together to have a conversation that makes sense. They won’t come off as talkative people. Schizophrenics can sit for a long period of time without making any movements or even saying a word. Along with upholding a conversation, they also may have difficulties trying to live a normal life. Maintaining a job, a marriage, a romantic relationship, taking care of themselves, eventually becomes hard and the help of others will be needed (NIMH-Schizophrenia). Schizophrenia is not a disorder that can be cured. Although there are treatments out there that will slowly alleviate some of the symptoms. Some of these symptoms are hallucinations, delusions, thought disorders, movement disorders, and inability to speak for long, lack of trying to enjoy their da... ...elusional. Due to that, Alicia brought Nash to a psychiatric hospital. At the psychiatric hospital, Nash was diagnosed with depression and paranoid schizophrenia (Howard, A Beautiful Mind). With schizophrenia, it is hard to maintain your daily life especially when it comes to relationships, hence why Nash and his wife Alicia had a divorce but they came back together years later. However the relationship was an unemotional one. (Howard, A Beautiful Mind). From what I can see, the lack of stability in Nash’s relationship and the non-emotional connection between the two shows how much his disorder has affected him and the marriage. For someone to not be able to create a new relationship after the divorce clearly shows that the status of the disorder has not changed. There is still a lack of emotional ability in Nash that disables him from having a normal relationship.

Developmental analysis Essay

Abstract This project involves the developmental milestones that one takes throughout life. The overall goal of this paper is to give the reader the understanding that the writer has knowledge about the theories and concept of Human Growth and Development. It will incorporate more about the development and growth of the writer. Information from the writer’s mother about her journey of her pregnancy and if she had any problems with her pregnancy. There will be an explanation from the mother about developmental milestones reached. There are a few early events that took place during the writer’s development it will be showcased in the paper. Finally the conclusion of the paper will focus on the lifestyle behaviors that might influence the writer’s current aging process and if there are any issues exactly how she would address it. Keywords: development, lifestyle, journey, young adulthood, human growth, milestones Developmental Milestones Developmental milestones are important journeys that everyone takes throughout out life. Once a mother first finds out that she is pregnant the child in which she is carrying begins to embark on their journey of life. Everyone does not reach their milestones on target or even at all. Each person is at a different stage in their life, therefore their milestones and journey will vary, from one to the other. My particular journey and development has followed the path of Psychologist Erik Erikson’s psychosocial stages of human development. I am currently between stages five and six. Stage five is identity vs. identity confusion and stage six is intimacy vs. isolation. Although I am a young adult I am still developing and hitting milestones on my journey of life. Mother’s Journey While being pregnant with me my mother speaks that she had no problem during her entire nine months of pregnancy. She did not have any problems until delivery. She was in labor for two days. Her water was broken and at that time I stopped moving down. She did not dilate anymore. Once dilation stopped it was found that the umbilical was wrapped around my neck. Although the cord caused stress and my heart rate to drop while in labor, it did not cause any other known complications once I was born. She was in labor for two days. Milestones Developmental milestones are important in a child’s life. Developmental milestones have a wide range of different functional skills that a child is able to do as they hit certain ages. â€Å"Infancy and childhood are dynamic periods of growth and change† (Gerber, Wilks, & Erdie-Larena, 2010). At each age a child is supposed to reach milestones in their life that would consider them as developing normal. If the child does not reach that particular milestone for their age then they are considered to have a developmental delay. Developmental milestones are associated with a child’s gross motor, cognitive, social, language, and fine motor skills. When a child develops their gross motor skills they are able to walk, stand, and sit. They learn how to use their major muscle groups. When the child reaches the cognitive milestone he or she shows that they are able to solve problems, show an understanding, and reasoning skills. Developing milestones also include language. When a child embarks on certain milestones they will develop abilities such as communication skills, speaking, and body language. Learning how to interact with others, for example peers and family is a social developmental milestone. Milestones are important for children to reach. It is crucial to monitor and watch a child as he or she develops. â€Å"Surveillance involves analyzing the milestones in the context of a child’s history, growth, and physical examination findings to recognize those who may be at risk for developmental delay. A thorough understanding of the normal or typical sequence of development in all domains (gross motor, fine motor, problem-solving, receptive language, expressive language, and social-emotional) allows the clinician to formulate a correct overall impression of a child’s true developmental status† (Gerber, Wilks, & Erdie-Larena, 2010).When a child is delayed in reaching their age milestone  parents and doctors will start to show concerns. Although it can be tough for parents worrying about if their child will meet the milestone, it is a developmental journey that is wonderful and joyous to watch. My Development Erik Erikson was a psychologist who developed the psychosocial developmental stages. â€Å"Erik Erikson’s theory of psychosocial development is one of the best-known theories of personality in psychology. Much like Sigmund Freud, Erikson believed that personality develops in a series of stages. Unlike Freud’s theory of psychosexual stages, Erikson’s theory describes the impact of social experience across the whole lifespan† (Cherry, 2014). Although there were other psychologists such as Sigmund Freud and Jean Piaget who had their own developmental theory, the one who I identify best with is Erik Erikson. After speaking with my parents from what they both remember I seem to hit all my developmental milestones without problems or issues. Trust vs Mistrust â€Å"The first stage of psychosocial development of basic trust vs. basic mistrust, he introduces the word hope which was to become the first human strength or virtue. According to Capps (2012) trust is a sense of dependence and confidence where on the other hand mistrust is caution and uncertainty. From birth to eighteen months Erikson called this stage the trust vs. mistrust. During this time the child develops a trust for people, like their parents or caregiver. When I inquired about what signs or anything significant where I showed trust or mistrust my mother said she had the perfect story. She told me that around six months due to the military my dad had to leave for about five months. Before he left I was very attached to him and cried when he left my eyes. Once he left I became attached to my brothers. When he returned I no longer wanted to go to him. The best way to describe it is that I lost trust in him and he became a stranger to me. It did take a while but eventually I was able to trust him and no longer feared him or had a mistrust for my dad. Autonomy vs Shame and Doubt Erikson’s early childhood stage is known as the stages of the two and three year olds. â€Å"Erikson’s second stage, autonomy versus shame and self-doubt, involves the struggle for personal control and separation from others†Ã‚  (Vogel-Scibilia, et al., 2009). In this developmental stage the child has a control over their physical skills. Best example given by my mother for this one was my potty training. Potty training was a smooth training for me. But when I made a mistake and went to the bathroom on myself I was ashamed and I was no longer proud of my accomplishments. It was just the opposite though if I did not use the bathroom on myself. I was excited and even happier when I received praise. I guess I had a sense of happiness and endeavors. Initiative vs Guilt Erikson’s locomotor stage happens during the ages of three through six. In this stage Erikson called it initiative vs guilt. â€Å"During this period the primary feature involves the child regularly interacting with other children at school. Central to this stage is play, as it provides children with the opportunity to explore their interpersonal skills through initiating activities† (McLeod, 2008).The outcome of the locomotor stage is for the child to gain independence. â€Å"The child takes initiatives which the parents will often try to stop in order to protect the child. The child will often overstep the mark in his forcefulness and the danger is that the parents will tend to punish the child and restrict his initiatives too much† (McLeod, 2008). I can remember this time of my life, like it was yesterday. Around the age of five I felt that I would take the initiative and start pick out my own clothes and also dress myself. The night before my first day of kin dergarten I picked out my clothes and could not wait to dress myself. I prepared everything I needed to be ready for the next morning. The first day I woke up eager and excited to get dress. I did everything right according to my mother, except for putting my shoes on the right foot. But the only problem with that was nobody could tell me I was wrong. I was adamant about putting these shoes on the way I wanted too. My brothers tried to help me but I refused their help. My mother gave up trying and let me walk to the car with my shoes on the wrong foot. When I did make it to the car my feet were hurting and I felt ashamed and guilt. I was ashamed and embarrassed because I was wrong. I felt guilty because I would not let anyone help me and I was acting like it would kill me to let my family help me. The locomotor stage showed me and helped me develop a sense of knowing that it is okay to ask for help. I never need or have to be too proud to get  help with I do not understand. Industry vs Inferiority â€Å"The fourth stage is industry versus inferiority and children try to hone and master culturally important skills. The achievement of these skills results in a sense of industry and the psychosocial strength of competence† (Dunkel & Sefek, 2009). It focused on age six to twelve. The outcome in the latency stage is the industry vs inferiority. Erikson set this stage for the school age children. He believed that during this time school age children learn new skills. They are going to learn how to deal with success or suffer with the possibility of failure. If a child is not able to learn their new task or study, they have to understand that there is a chance that failure will occur. I really cannot remember an example that occurred in this stage for me. However I do know what it is like to learn or know about failure. At this age I was learning new things and understanding many different life lessons. I recall in the 7th grade I had to write an essay about black history mont h. Although I thought I knew a lot I quickly found out that I did not. In the third grade I won an award for writing a black history essay. Well in the sixth grade I just knew that I would succeed and win again, I was sadly mistaken. I learned and improved my writing skills but I had to experience failing. I felt a sense of incompetence when I did not win. During this developmental milestone it took me awhile to learn and understand that I was not perfect and I would not succeed in everything I did and would do. But overall the journey that I took was great and I would later find out that anything I wanted to do was possible. This stage helped shape me and get me thus far. Identity vs Role Confusion â€Å"According to Erikson, adolescence was the time when young people were given opportunities to reflect on what career they would choose, what kind of social and romantic relationships they would enter into, and what values and beliefs they would hold† (Schwartz, Zamboanga, Meca, & Ritchie, 2012). The way Erikson explained the adolescence and young adult stages fits me to a tee. Even though the adolescence and young adult stage are spoken about separately they both describe me as I am right now. Erikson described the adolescence stage as the identity verses role confusion. It usually occurs during ages twelve to eighteen. At the stage the developmental goal is for  the adolescent to learn how to obtain and maintain relationships. The relationship that is developed is between the adolescent and their peers. In most cases the adolescent learns how to identify their role and identity. Intimacy vs Isolation Currently the young adult stage that Erikson described is where I am supposed to be in life. It is the developing milestone where the young adult ultimate goal is to have a love relationship. It deals with ages nineteen to forty. â€Å"Erik Erikson spoke of intimacy as a stage of young adulthood that everyone must negotiate, via faithfulness to commitments and readiness for sacrifice† (Torrens, 2009). As a young adult you are trying to develop your relationships with your love ones. Such as your significant other. This is the time that the young adult must understand how to love or they will feel left out as if they are isolated. According to McLeod (2012) when this stage is completed successfully it will lead to a calm and relaxed relationship, a sense of commitment, and a care within the relationship. If one avoids the intimacy and isolates themselves it can and will lead to isolation, loneliness, and sometimes depression. My Current Development I find myself in between the adolescence and young adult stages. Although I feel successful at developing relationships with my peers, which is the ultimate goal of adolescence, I still feel as if I have not identified exactly where I want and need to be, career wise. I am still learning myself and finding out who I am. Ever since I was in the adolescence stage I seem to have been trying to figure out my life and what it is I want to do with myself, career wise. In some moments and instances I felt as if I did not have the friends and relationships I deserve or should have. When I finished college I knew I wanted to work with the County Bureau of Investigations. When I applied and was turned down I figured that something was wrong. I was not mastering this milestone as I should have. I then started working with clients who suffer from mental disabilities. It was a just a stepping stone job that was supposed to get me through until I was able to become an investigator. Four years later I was still working with clients and not my dream job. Still loss and confused I started working at child support. I am still there to this day and feel like I am still confused and not sure  exactly what I need to be doing, as far as occupation. According to the theory of Erik Erikson’s psychosocial stages I am in the young adult stage. I feel that I am not quite there with developing the intimate relationship. Although I have been in a relationship for a while I still feel like I am isolated. I have not completed this stage and still have a few years to go before I am there. Both the adolescence and young adult stages I did not succeed with ease. It is taking me longer to get through these developmental stages. The two stages are helping me to become the young woman and adult I am supposed to. It is just taking me much more time. Currently in my life I am stuck between the two. I have had several disappointments and mistakes in both stages. I have associated myself with the wrong crowd to now working with individuals who want something in life and I feel can help me succeed. I am still a work in process. Spiritual Development â€Å"The inattentiveness to spiritual development in the mainstream social sciences can be graphically illustrated in the study of development psychology† (Roehlkepartain, Benson, King, & Wagener, 2005). Spiritual development takes time to understand. Therefore when it comes to the younger adults it is important for them to understand and form their own spiritual opinions. I have never been a big person on spirituality or religion. Overtime I have started to understand, believe, and accept my spiritual development. Spiritual development is a physiological and psychological movement in one’s life. For me I am growing stronger mentally. Being spiritually developed relieves a person of harmful toxins. A person is able to become healthier and stronger. Although I have begun the process of developing spiritually, I am far from there. I have a lot of hurdles to climb before I am able to say that I have developed spiritually. â€Å"But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To Him be glory both and forever† 2 Peter 3:18 Conclusion In conclusion, developmental milestones are important for everyone. Everyone is not going to make it through all the milestones with ease. There will be bumps and bruises along the way. Even though Erik Erikson psychosocial best describes me there are other psychologist that one may feel more connected  too.
